Python Application Developer

The developer will report directly to the Head of Quantitative Equities to enhance an internally developed application used to monitor and analyse financed carbon emissions. The application is a very high-profile tool to be used by analysts, portfolio managers and executives across the firm The role will work closely with front office professionals to meet user requirements. The role’s focus will be on implementing against defined requirements from business users, which broadly covers improved components and functionality, visualising additional climate-related data, improving auditability, and building components to support improved data validation and governance.
Own development of internal Net Zero tracking application.
Expand functionality and components at both an asset and portfolio level.
Improve application UX.
Expand data visualisation capabilities.
Build components to support data governance and auditability.
Work closely with front office staff to meet defined user requirements.
As required, define solutions to achieve defined requirements.
Manage a defined backlog of functionality/features.
Execute testing and defect resolution
Adhere to provided Python standards and best practice.
Solution design and requirements to develop against will be provided, with the role encouraged to provide value-add inputs into design, development, and user experience elements.
Essential
Experience building performant applications and user interfaces for data intensive applications within a financial institution.
Advanced Python engineering skills including traditional data stack (pandas, numpy, etc.), object-oriented programming (OOP) and experience of Flask or Dash frameworks.
Basic understanding of HTML and CSS for UI layout.
Experience adhering to software development best practices such as testing, CI/CD pipelines, Git and environment management.
Good understanding of different data visualisation techniques, linking to an excellent user experience.
Logical, structured thought processes and good problem-solving skills.
Ability to design simple solutions.
Desirable
Experience developing applications for climate and/or portfolio analysis.
Full stack development experience using React and understanding of data models (e.g. SQLAlchemy).
Experience connecting to cloud-based data storage (i.e. any of AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.).
Experience with agile projects, with fast turnarounds on delivering new code.
